In the case of Trump? I’m sure they can generate a vast literature of attempted justification, but I do indeed doubt whether those attempts will avoid or answer the problems discussed here.

The purpose of this article was not to spell out non-relativistic moral principles for holding presidential candidates accountable. It’s about the values evangelical Christians have publicly articulated and defended up until very recently. How someone responds to the former will vary along with how they identify along the lines of the latter. While your question is interesting, it’s not the focus here and would require probably a lot more than another article.
