What Will Rush Limbaugh’s Legacy Be?

My first exposure to the political commentary of Rush Limbaugh came as a child. Often when I would ride in the car with my dad, he would put on Limbaugh’s radio show. Even at a young age, I couldn’t help noticing the fact that he wasn’t exactly allowed to do this when my mom was with us. I think she mostly disliked the anger she heard on the show, but that was one of those things that always stuck with me. Back then I didn’t understand much of what this man on the radio was talking about, including what was making him so incensed.

Truth be told, I still don’t understand much of it. Limbaugh was one of the conservative voices implying that Obama was a secret Muslim during his presidency, going so far as to claim that he and the Democratic Party itself are “constantly denigrating Christians.” This based on remarks the former president made about small-town resentments driving some bitter people to cling to things like guns or religion. Limbaugh has suggested that the Charlottesville attack in 2017 was orchestrated by the left, even blaming George Soros while dismissing the threat posed by white supremacist groups. He’s also openly declared on his show that if any race shouldn’t feel guilt over slavery, it would be Caucasians.
